Update June 5th

Tomorrow (June 6th) an extra search team will travel to Nepal to support Ruben and Paul in the search for Christiaan in the area of Jomsom and Pokhara. The team contains 3 friends. They won’t travel into the mountains, but will investigate scenario’s in which Christiaan would already be in a hospital or other places outside the mountains.

An IT company, run by a friend of Christiaan, set up an Facebook campain, aimed at people who live in Nepal or traveled to Nepal. The first reactions came in.

The site is also translated in English. We’re working on a Nepalese version.

Paul is ok. He sleeps at basecamp this evening. The dogs have searched further by the river, but didn’t find anything. Ruben has been in contact with the local police, a mountain unit of the army and the organisations who are making plans to set up more searches.

Update June 4th (evening)

Paul says (via satellite phone) he’s doing well. They’ve searched the dangerous area with the most experiences mountainguides and dogs. Not all places could be searched, because of the risk of falling rocks. Tomorrow Paul will return with a small group, the rest will go on. Paul “turned every stone” at the places he could come.

We’ve spend quit a lot of attention on social media today, not just in the Netherlands, but also in Nepal. We’ve started a Facebook campaign for people who traveled to Nepal. www.christiaanwilson.nl/tips has been activated and Hart van Nederland made a video in which Pieter asks people to help.

Most likely Monday evening a second group of friends will travel to Nepal.

Update June 4th (morning)

The weather was good this morning. The helicopter took an half hour visual spot on difficult areas above the basecamp en Italian camp. the SARON team was dropped at the agreed location, Italian camp and Paul it there. They will work their way up. The dogteam is dropped at basecamp. They will work to Italian camp. Ruben and Paul are ok.

Local media report about the missing of Christiaan

The local media in Nepal are reporting about the missing of Christiaan. Flyers are distributed with a recent photo of Christiaan and a reward if someone finds him. We hope this will help to mobilize people to come with tips that could lead to Christiaan.

Dutch teams arrive on location

The team with Ruben and the search and rescue dogs arrived safely at basecamp. The helicopter had 2 fly twice to bring the team with the dogs to it´s location. Paul and the team with tech climbers also arrived just below basecamp. Both teams started with their search on the ground.

Ruben is traveling along with the search and rescuedogs to search for Christiaan. The road is quit a challenge for a Fiat Panda.

Update June 3rd

Unfortunately the weather was bad, so the helicopter with Paul could not finish it´s flight. The dogs are brought to Beni on June 3rd. Ruben is also in Beni and had contact with the local police.

The plan is that the dogs and Ruben will go up with a jeep and be picked up with a helicopter to fly to basecamp if the weather is ok.

A lot of things happen in The Netherlands. We raised 32,000 euro. A lot of media are writing about the rescue mission. We are thinking about sending a second team to Nepal. As soon as this is sure, we will report about it.

Update June 2nd

Update June 2nd

We haven’t found any sign of Christiaan yet. The friends of Chris have made more plans to continue the search.

Tomorrow a team of rescue dogs will start. The dogs will be brought by helicopter of the weather is good enough. A team of specialist will search for dangerous places. We’re receiving a lot of money to continue the searches. We’ve already got access to a lot of search possibilities, but we’ll keep looking for more options.

Christiaans bankaccounts and Facebook accounts are not used after may 15th.

Update June 1st

Update June 1st

Unfortunately the team who is looking for Christiaan on the ground has found nothing. The friends who flew to Nepal arrived safely. They will try to meet the right people to set up the search.

We’ve started a new foundation “Red (Save) Christiaan Wilson”. We’re investigating the opportunity the use the foundation to set up a crowdfunding-action to extent the search for Christiaan.

We’re looking for the option to use search- and rescuedogs for search for Christiaan. If this will start, it will start at June 3rd the earliest.

Two friends of Christiaan, with extensive alpine experience, left tonight (Tuesday, May 31) in a plane to Nepal. Together with local people they will walk possible routes in order to find Christiaan. These friends, including a trauma surgeon in training, will work closely with the local rescue team and the team of the NKBV.

The past day the research team searched for Christiaan on foot. Two sherpas have searched in the area of the Dhaulagiri Base Camp (above). One Sherpa has searched in the area of Italy Base camp (below). The Sherpas walked towards each other, have met and didn’t find Christiaan. The helicopter will fly on Route B this morning.

Second search team began searching

A second research team arrived yesterday and will start searching today in the most probable area where Christiaan might be located. The team is assembled by the NKBV, with a Dutch leader.

Search continues on ground

The helicopter departed to Dhaulagiri Base Camp from Kathmandu at  07:30 local time (03:00 CEST) returned with no result. Two Sherpas are on foot to search the area of the Dhaulagiri Base Camp. 1 Sherpa is on foot to search the area of Italy Base camp. They will also explore the area in the next 24 hours.

Search has started

On Monday May 30th at 07:00 am local time (03:15 uur CEST) the search for Christiaan has started.

Based on the available information, it’s logical to look at the trekking of Basecamp (BC) to Beni (see map). De first part of descending 1000 height meters is 3 hours on a glacier. Depending on fresh snow, this can be risky.

If there is no snow a lot less. Because there seems to have been Facebook contact on May 17 (!) and Christiaan left from base camp the 15/16th, it would be likely that he has past the glacier and reached/passed Italian camp. This is not more than a day from BC (1000 hm). However Snowy Horizon (expedition agency) says there is no message that he’s been here.
